GRACE BUCHAN - Podiatrist

Why did you become a Podiatrist?  I became a Podiatrist because I was fascinated by the biomechanics and gait of the lower limb and how this can cause injuries to individuals. I love helping people to achieve the best possible health outcome. I have also had my fair share of acute and overuse injuries throughout my sporting career.

What sort of patients do you most enjoy helping? I believe that all patients should be treated like athletes no matter their skill level, ability or activity and I love helping those who are active in their everyday life. I also love helping patients who are passionate about their health and who are committed to making necessary changes to their lifestyle in order to achieve their health goals.

Interesting things you have done in your career? I was a footwear specialist at Active Feet for the several years before going into Private Practice, using treadmill gait analysis in order to fit individuals in shoes relevant to their biomechanics and physical demands.

Current running shoe?  I have a couple of running shoes I interchange between. I am currently running in the Asics GT-2000s and the Mizuno Inspire for my longer kms and then I will wear the Mizuno Sayanara for my shorter distances.

Current work shoe?  My current work shoe is a black leather shoe from Bared Footwear.

What do you do to keep fit?  I am currently playing VFLW Football for Collingwood Football Club which has kept me very fit with their strength and conditioning programs.

Greatest sporting achievement?  In September 2017 I competed in the Berlin Major Marathon which was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was beyond challenging, mentally and physically, and it was extremely rewarding crossing the finish line under the Brandenburg gate.

If you could jump on a plane and visit one city, which would it be?  It isn’t a city, but I would hands down visit Positano in Italy.

Favourite thing to do outside of work? I love spending time with my family, friends and my black labrador. I also enjoy exploring and going on road trips down the coast when I get the time.

Where did you grow up?  I have always lived in Malvern.

What is your food weakness?  My food weakness is any asian cuisine,  wood-fired pizza and fried chicken.
